A recent article in the York Press discuses the increased expenditure of £3m in mental health in the region, with much of this expenditure spent on maintaining patients out of the region. Maintaining patients out of their region has become a national issue that is not only confined to the York and Selby district.
The report quotes a member of the York Defend Our NHS group: “The group is distressed on behalf of those patients, their family and friends. People with mental health problems are being sent away for treatment at great cost to the taxpayer as well as huge emotional cost to them and their families.
“It’s well beyond time these issues were resolved before more patients suffer.”
