999 Call for the NHS in Darlington

Today several members from Defend Our NHS York travelled to Darlington to support their “999 Call for the NHS”  rally.  The rally was organised by Johanna Adams a local mother concerned about the changes in the NHS.

Organisers and Speakers (left to right) Helen Metcalf-Unison; Rehana Azam- GMB; Ian Mearns – MP & Mrs. Mearns (partially hidden); Joanna Adams – organiser and mother; Cllr Bill Dixon – leader Darlington Council; Martin Wright – Unite; Natalie Bennet – Green Party Leader.

Joanna Adams (center), whose vision led to the event,  gave an excellent opening address – you can read a great summary of her address here.   It is important to note that this was Johanna’s maiden public address.  I am sure we speak for all who listened that we hope there will be many more opportunities for her to speak.

Following Johanna, the list of speakers included:  Rehana Azam – GMB NHS National Officer Chair; Natalie Bennett – Leader of The Green Party; Ian Mearns – Labour MP for Gateshead; Dr. Clive Peedell – Leader of the NHA Party and Steve Walker-Blogger and Political Researcher.
